Journalist Ray Marcano argues that the greatest threats to our democracy
are the 24 hour content cycle and social media. Ray Marcano has more
than thirty-five years of journalism experience as a reporter,
executive, and leader at newspapers in New York, Oklahoma, and Dayton,
Ohio. He has vast digital media experience and finished his media career
as senior director of audience growth for Cox Media Group, where he
oversaw the company’s national content desk. He now runs his own
consulting firm, which focuses on digital media, writing, and editing.
He’s the former national president of the Society of Professional
Journalists, the nation’s most prestigious journalism association, a
two-time Pulitzer juror, and a Fulbright fellow. This talk was given at a
TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized
by a local community.
